Welcome! In this experiment, you will be asked to make rapid decisions about the color of an object.
You will be presented with a series of trials. In each trial, one object will be gray, and the other object will be either purple or orange. After a second, one of the two objects will move towards the other object, hitting it. Sometimes the gray object will move first, and sometimes the other object will move first. When the two objects make contact, the gray object will always change color.
Press the right arrow key on your keyboard to continue.
Press the left arrow key on your keyboard to go back.
Sometimes, the gray object will turn purple. Other times, the gray object will turn orange. If the gray object turns target_color, press the spacebar. Press the key as quickly as you can once the gray object turns target_color.
If the gray object turns other_color, do not press anything .
The trials will pass very quickly, and they will progress automatically. Once the the object changes color, you will only have a brief period of time to decide whether or not to press the key. After each trial is complete, you will receive feedback on whether or not you were correct, and the next trial will immediately start.
Press the right arrow key on your keyboard to continue.
Press the left arrow key on your keyboard to go back.
Before proceeding to the main experiment, you will complete a brief practice phase. This phase will consist of ten trials. These trials are similar to the main experiment, but they will move much more slowly.
Remember: If the gray object turns target_color, press the spacebar. If the gray object turns other_color, do not press anything.
Press the spacebar to begin the practice phase.
Press the left arrow key on your keyboard to go back.
You have now completed the practice phase. You will now complete the main experiment, which will consist of 128 trials. These trials will be similar to those that you encountered during the practice phase. However, they will move much more quickly, and feedback will only consist of a quick border color change.
There will be a break halfway through (after 64 trials). At this point, you may take a break for as long as you would like, and you may continue the experiment when you are ready.
Remember: If the gray object turns target_color, press the spacebar. If the gray object turns other_color, do not press anything.
Press the spacebar to begin the main experiment.
